Great parents allowing their daughters to get involved with these scumbags.

Many of the girls came from troubled vulnerable backgrounds - broken homes, families struggling to make ends meet etc. Grooming is insidious as it starts with the perpetrators making the girls being groomed feel special and seeming to care for them. Then the rape starts followed by the threats and the girls feel trapped with nowhere to turn as when they try to get help they are dismissed as either liars or promiscuous.

It's very easy to sit at home and watch this and wonder where the parents were or why the police did nothing but unfortunately this happened and still is.

    Exactly this.

Some did - one of the dads got arrested for making a fuss about his daughter being attacked.

What is most scandalous is how those often senior well paid officials who allowed this to happen under their watch has not been disciplined or sacked. Some have even been promoted to even higher roles.

Good to hear that one of the dads tried to do something.

Its easy to judge. "The men who do this have total control over these girls". That's the crux.

Are you serious? You saw at least one of the parents were trying to help their daughter but she keeps going back. The parents could lock the whole house up and she'd still find a way to escape.

And locking them in , is in itself against the law anyway

there are girls like this in every sink estate in the country. And it still goes on. Some of these girls should have been taken into care long before this happened to them.

Its not only girls from difficult backgrounds

The lack of intervention from police and social services really is astounding here.

Not surprised they get such a bad name the way they treated those girls.

Interesting I didn't know that, you'd think with the situation it would be legal after all shes a child and vulnerable.

Very poignant final scene with Amber looking out the window, seeing Holly's parents taking her away and probably wishing that she had the same.

Agree with both of you. It's astonishing how blind and disconnected those people are.

I thought this was an excellent opening to a drama.

Of course harrowing and difficult to watch, but brilliantly made all the same, will certainly watch the next two episodes.

Horrifying when that policeman yawned when Holly told him about the abuse.

This is crazy - they all sat there not giving a shit - completely unreal - it's so sad

The sad thing is that it was very real.

Last thing I saw Maxine Peake in was the labour party political broadcast, and she was good in that as well!
